Instructions:
1. Prepare the Marinade:
• In a large bowl, mix together the soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated pear or apple (if using), finely chopped onion, chopped green onions, sesame seeds, ground black pepper, and gochujang or crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Stir until the sugar is dissolved and all the ingredients are well combined.
2. Marinate the Ground Beef:
• Add the ground beef to the bowl with the marinade. Using your hands or a spoon, mix the beef with the marinade until it’s evenly coated. Make sure the marinade is thoroughly mixed with the meat for the best flavor. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, but ideally for 1-2 hours to allow the flavors to develop.
3. Cook the Bulgogi:
• Heat a large skillet or pan over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil. Once hot, add the marinated ground beef. Cook the beef, breaking it up with a spatula or wooden spoon as it cooks, until it’s fully browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Ensure the meat is cooked evenly and all liquid has evaporated, allowing the beef to caramelize slightly for extra flavor.
4. Serve the Ground Beef Bulgogi:
• Serve the cooked bulgogi over a bowl of steamed rice, or use it as a filling for lettuce wraps or tacos. Garnish with additional sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired.
